Get started

Developing color film with the Cs41 kit

Step 1: Mix the chemicals
  • Mix the Cs41 Developer and Blix using the TCS-1000 and 1000mL mixing jugs. It's important to fully clean the TCS-1000 to avoid cross-contaminating the chemistry. For a closer look at chemical mixing with the TCS-1000.
Step 2: Load the film in the developing tank

  • Film must be loaded in complete darkness. If you don't have a space that can be blacked out, consider purchasing a film changing bag.

Step 3: Pour in the Developer & agitate the developing tank
  • Bring the chemicals in your labelled storage bottles up to 102F using the TCS-1000.
  • Pour the Developer into the tank carefully, but as quickly as possible.
  • Start the first timer on the TCS-1000 (3 minutes and 30 seconds) and agitate the tank using inversion cycles for the first 10 seconds, then do 4 inversion cycles every 30 seconds. As you continue to re-use the Developer, you'll have to increase the developing time. See more details here.
  • At the end of the first timer you'll hear a beep. Quickly pour the Developer solution back into your labeled storage bottle.
Step 4: Pour in the Blix & agitate the developing tank
  • Pour the Blix into the tank carefully, but as quickly as possible.
  • The second timer will begin on the TCS-1000 with a beep. Agitate the tank the same way as the developer, for 8 minutes.
  • At the end of the 8 minutes, pour the Blix solution back into your labeled storage bottle.
Step 5: Wash the film & hang it to dry
  • Place the developing tank under running water and wash for at least 3 minutes. Alternatively, you can also fill the tank with water and do 5 inversion cycles, empty and refill the tank with fresh water, and then repeat for 7 times total.
  • Securely hang the film to dry in a dust-free area (e.g. bathroom/shower). It’s good practice to weigh down the bottom of the film strip with a clothespin to prevent the film from curling as it dries.
  • After processing your film, sometimes you may see water spots or residue on your negatives. They are THE WORST. In this video, we share shares how to prevent water spots and how to clean them if they do appear.

Step 6: Preview, scan, and share your images!

Developing B+W film with the Df96 Monobath

Step 1: Mix the chemicals
  • Mix the powdered components (Parts A and B) with water using the TCS-1000 and 1000mL mixing jug. Fully clean the TCS-1000 after mixing. For a closer look at chemical mixing with the TCS-1000.
Step 2: Load the film in the developing tank

  • Film must be loaded in complete darkness. If you don't have a space that can be blacked out, consider purchasing a film changing bag.

Step 3: Measure the temperature of the chemistry and select your developing time + agitation frequency
  • With the required volume of Df96 solution in your mixing jug, insert the TCS-1000 into the jug and measure the temperature.
  • Select your developing time and agitation frequency from one of the three available combinations. See more information on temperature/time/agitation combinations here.
  • Set the first timer on the TCS-1000 to the processing time and the second timer to the washing time (3 minutes).
Step 4: Pour in the solution & agitate the developing tank
  • Pour the chemistry into the tank carefully, but as quickly as possible.
  • Start the first timer on the TSC-1000 and agitate according to the combination you selected. As you continue to re-use the Df96 Monobath solution, you'll have to increase the processing time. See more details on chemical re-use here.
  • At the end of the first timer you'll hear a beep. Pour the solution back into your labelled storage bottle.
