Product Details

ADOX was founded in 1860 as the world's first photochemical factory. Over the next several decades, it became one of the leading film producers in Europe. Today, ADOX films, papers, and chemistry are proudly manufactured in Germany by an incredibly passionate team of film photography enthusiasts.

ADOX CHS 100 II is an orthopanchromatic B&W film with classical grain optimized for excellent greyscale separation. It is made of two emulsions coated in a single layer on a clear PET base, resulting in very wide exposure latitude.

The orthopanchromatic emulsion features a reduced red sensitivity and a curve gap between blue and green. Compared to modern films it produces more distinct tonal separation between lips/faces, clouds/sky, water/land, etc. CHS 100 II is perfect for fine art photography, delivering a true 1960’s film look.

In 35mm and 120 format ADOX CHS100 II has two anti-halation layers (between the emulsion and the base, and on the backside), making it very sharp. The backside anti-halation layer also diminishes curling and reduces the effect of light-piping. This effect of light penetrating through the base is characteristic to all polyester-based films and cannot be fully prevented. CHS 100 II should be protected from bright light which can fog the first few frames. It should be loaded in shade or subdued light. The PET base has a tendency to spring open, so 120 rolls need to be held more tightly than triacetate films when loading and unloading the camera.

CHS 100 II sharpness and contrast can be managed with various developers: velvety soft results in ADOX Atomal 49, balanced contrast and optimal sharpness in ADOX FX-39, and elevated contrast with extra high definition in ADOX Rodinal. Staining developers are not recommended.
